蒼頡（そうけつ）とは漢字を発明したとされる中国の伝説上の人物。「4つの目」とすぐれた視力を持ち、動物の足跡を観察することで漢字を発明したとされている。
本作では、「文字でありながらイメージでもある」漢字を題材に、AIによってその発生のプロセスを再演する。象形文字である漢字とその元となった自然のイメージの対応関係を学習したAIが、新規の画像や映像を読み込み、対応する象形・漢字様の文字を生成する。
両壁面にはAIが学習した大量の漢字と対応する画像データが掲げられており、AIと伝説を繋ぐ4つの目（自然を見る一対の目と文字を見るもう一対の目）がそれらを眺める。
Cangjie (Sōketsu) is a legendary figure in Chinese mythology who is said to have invented Chinese characters. Endowed with “four eyes” and extraordinary vision, he is believed to have created writing by observing the footprints of animals.
This work reenacts that process of emergence through AI, using Chinese characters—forms that are simultaneously text and image—as its subject. An AI trained on the relationship between pictographic Chinese characters and the natural images from which they originated analyzes new images and videos, generating corresponding pictographic or character-like symbols.
On both walls are displayed the vast collection of Chinese characters and corresponding image data used in the AI’s training. Overseeing them are the “four eyes” that connect the AI with the legend: one pair for observing nature, and another for reading characters.
